George was promoted to the fourth grade this year and is thriving in school. His teachers describe him as very active and engaged in class. At home, George enjoys going into the forest with his mom to gather sticks and wood for cooking. He has recently started learning how to cook and finds it quite enjoyable. With a big smile, he joked, “Cooking is a girl’s job, but I want to cook!” George is proud of learning this new skill and loves helping his mom at home. Sponsored by: Joyce Jorgensen

Nine-year-old George is in the second grade and lives with his mother, his siblings and several extended family members. George wants to be a computer engineer one day. His father abandoned the family several years ago. His mother, though loving and supportive, just cannot make enough from subsistence farming to fully support the family. The gift of a scholarship was a Godsend for George’s family. Sponsored by: Donations from General Funds
