Charles faced a difficult year but remains determined to overcome the challenges he’s been dealt. He was unable to complete the fourth-grade last year after his brother, with whom he had been living, became seriously ill and could no longer provide for the family. As a result, Charles had to move to live with another relative who lived far from the school that Girl Power had enrolled him in. Unfortunately, this distance made it impossible for him to attend school regularly, and as a result, Charles had to repeat the fourth grade. Despite these setbacks, Charles remains a very hardworking student. He came to us with a sincere apology, expressing his commitment to succeeding this year. He promised that he would go to school regularly, and he was very clear about his goal to pass the fourth grade this time around. His favorite subject is math, and he is determined to excel in it. Charles’ situation has been difficult, but his perseverance and dedication are clear. We are proud of his resolve to continue his education, and we believe that, with his hardworking attitude, he will overcome the challenges he faces this year and achieve success. Ten-year-old Charles lives in Flowin with his big brother and five extended family members.  Charles is in the third grade and wants to be a driver one day.  His mother and father left Charles and his three siblings with “family” in Flowin and they went to the neighboring country of Guinea to “hustle for work” to care for their family.  They have not been heard from since they left and Charles’ brother took, he and his three siblings into his household.  With his own children to provide for, Charles’ brother needed help to sustain Charles in school.  Charles is thankful for the gift of a scholarship.
