Fourteen-year-old Blessing was promoted to fifth grade. Blessing is determined to do all she can to get a double promotion this school year. Double promotion is a supportive option given to older students that requires them to work hard to obtain a B+ or above GPA and receive a double promotion which helps them catch up with their age-appropriate grade level. Blessing continues to live with her grandfather. Sponsored by: Lori Kilstrom Higgins

Thanks to the generous donation from Mariner & Kaylie Hernandez, Blessing has been re-enrolled into school for the 2020/2021 school year. Her mother has been sick and she went to go visit her and was absent for registration but her materials were left with administration to be given upon her return. She is in the 2nd grade this year and still wants to be a representative when she grows up. She continues to live with her grandfather.

Meet Blessing, who has been generously sponsored by Mariner and Natasha Hernandez. She is 9 years old and, in the K,-2 this year. Blessing lives in Suakazue, Liberia with her grandfather. Not long after the death of her father, Blessings’s mother was diagnosed with dementia. (Liberia doesn’t have an institution for people with dementia, therefore, they live on the streets and are referred to as “crazy people”). Blessing’s grandfather is unemployed with no income and couldn’t afford to send her to school. The town chief told Girl Power Africa: “their survival depends on the kindness of their neighbors”. Her interest is playing her doll and she hopes to be a representative when she grows up.
