2017:  Meet Serena, who has been generously sponsored by Liz Schmit. She is 9 years old and in the kindergarten this year. She lives in Suakazue, Liberia with her grandmother. Serena’s father passed away on July 25, 2018 from malaria and she moved in with her grandmother. However, her grandmother is unemployed and could not afford to send Serena to school. She hopes to be a nurse when she grows up. Liz, thank you for giving Serena a gift of education and an opportunity for a better future. (Serena had a major case of scabies during the time of our visit. Also, in some parts of Liberia, when a child's parent dies, the child's hair is shaved for new growth, new opportunities and new beginning. Hints, that's why Serena's hair was shaved in this picture)
