PROMISE: S183-VEH

November

2023

Promise has been promoted to the fourth grade at the age of 17, marking a significant step in her academic journey. With a newfound ambition, she has shifted her career aspirations from becoming a police officer to pursuing a career in medicine. Motivated by the loss of family members, Promise is determined to become a doctor and help sick individuals in need.

Recognizing the importance of education in achieving her goals, Promise emphasizes its significance in her life. Her academic prowess shines through in her highest scoring class, math. Despite the challenges she faces, Promise works after school to support both herself and her family.

Continuing to reside with her older sister, Promise remains focused on her studies and committed to making a positive impact in the future.

Promise received a double promotion from 1st to 3rd grade; a remarkable feat considering her humble circumstances. Promise was living with her mother and then her grandmother but both of them passed away.  She had to move many times but thankfully was able to move to her big sister’s household.  Sixteen-year-old Promise is determined to pursue her education to the end. Thanks to GPA’s amazing partner network for standing alongside Promise. Sponsored by: Mary Zins

Meet Promise, who has been generously sponsored by Ann Wenzel and Arlene Norris as a special birthday gift for Mary Zins. She is 11 years old and is going to school for the first time this year in ABC. Promise lives in Vehyipa, Liberia with her older sister.  After the death of their mother 2 years ago, her 21 years old sister dropped out of school to raise her siblings.  Promise got first degree burns on a third of her body when hot water that she was boiling fell on her.  Promise’s interests are helping her sister and she hopes to be a police officer when she grows up.
