September 2020: Thanks to the generous donation from Tina Bender, Marthaline has been re-enrolled into school for the 2020/2021 school year. She is in the 1st grade this year and still wants to be a chemist when she grows up. She continues to live with her grandparents.

October 2019: Thanks to the generous donation from Tina Bender, Marthaline has been re-enrolled into school for the 2019-2020 school year. Please note that Marthaline’s hair was shaved off due to the following reason: In some parts of Liberia, women, especially first daughters and wives, are known to shave off their heads when grieving their husbands, mothers, fathers and grandparent’s death, as a sign of respect to the dead and as a new beginning. Marthaline’s grandmother passed away a few months ago.

June 2019: We are pleased to announce that Marthaline was promoted to the K2 for the 2018-2019 school year. Robin, thank you for your sponsorship and giving your student a gift of education through Girl Power Africa.

2018:  Meet Marthaline, who has been generously sponsored by Robin Stuewer’s Lularoe Group She is 10 years old and in the kindergarten1 this year. She lives in New Yekepa, Liberia with her grandparents. Marthaline’s father became an instant alcoholic when he discovered his wife’s lifeless body about 4 years ago. Since the death of Marthaline’s mother, her father has been unable to support his family. His parents are helping him to take care of the children. However, they too are unemployed and have been unable to send Marthaline and her sister to school. She hopes to be a chemist when she grows up.
