JANET: S185-VEH

October 2022

2022

Janet was promoted to sixth grade and has been re-enrolled in school for the 2022/2023 school year.  She still lives with her uncle and dreams of becoming a doctor one day. With less than 500 doctors serving a population of 4.5 million people, Liberian households often experience fatalities due to treatable illnesses.  Children aspiring to become doctors is a worthy cause.  Sponsored by: Susan Knaus

We are pleased to announce that Janet was promoted to the 4th grade for the 2019/2020 school year. We are proud of Janet’s hard work and dedication – to walk 6 miles one day to get to school is not a small task. But Janet is determined to succeed. D’Anna Freiberg, thank you for your sponsorship and for giving your student a gift of education.

Meet Janet, who has been generously sponsored by D’Anna Freiberg. She is 11 years old and in the 2nd grade this year. Janet lives in Vehyipa, Liberia with her mother. The principal of Vehyipa School had told Girl Power Africa that Janet walks about 6 miles each way to get to school and she’s almost always the first student to arrive on campus. But this year, she could not afford to go to school.  Entering and remaining in school is a tricky venture for many Liberian children.  At times families can afford to pay for one semester with hopes of acquiring funds to continue.  Oftentimes, children must start, stop, start school again depending upon the financial situation of the parents.  This scholarship is a huge blessing. Janet’s interests are learning and she hopes to be a doctor when she grows up.
