Betty and her husband have 3 children. 3 years ago, one of her cousins was in a terribly situation up country. Betty convinced her husband for her cousin to come to Monrovia and live with them until the cousin could “get on her feet”, as Betty puts it.  About a year ago, Betty found out that her husband has been having an affair with her cousin. He and the family begged Betty for forgiveness. She eventually forgive him. However, after about 9 months, Betty discovered that the husband and her cousin were still going out in her house! And to make matter worse, he has become more and more physically violent and verbally very abusive towards Betty and their children. “The neighbors have to always come stop him from beating on me”, Betty told me. (My personal appeal to all men out there: PLEASE STOP BEATING WOMEN! THEY ARE NOT YOUR BEATING DRUMS!). Betty and the kids moved out 3 months ago and have been trying to get their lives together. She told me, “Old Ma, it’s not easy to see my children cry from hunger, but God is in control. I just have to trust him”.
